Compassion in Every Moment. Care at Every Step: North Texas Giving Day Is Approaching

At The Turning Point, compassion is not simply something we talk about. It is something our staff put into practice every day.

It is in the way a forensic nurse creates a safe and gentle environment during an incredibly difficult moment. It is in the way an advocate listens without judgment and helps a survivor understand their options. It is in the patience of a counselor who allows healing to happen at the survivor’s own pace. It is in the work of our educators, volunteers, and staff who help build a community that is informed, responsive, and committed to supporting survivors.

As North Texas Giving Day approaches, we are inviting our community to see what that compassion looks like through our 2026 campaign:

Care That Begins With the Survivor

For someone who has experienced sexual violence, asking for help can be an incredibly vulnerable step. How they are received in that moment matters.

That is why our staff approach their work through a trauma-informed, survivor-centered lens. We understand that trauma can affect a person’s sense of safety, trust, control, and ability to make decisions. Instead of expecting every survivor to respond or heal in the same way, we meet each person where they are.

That can mean slowing down.

It can mean explaining what will happen before taking the next step.

It can mean offering choices rather than making decisions for someone.

It can mean respecting a boundary, sitting quietly, listening without judgment, or simply reminding someone that they are believed.

Our goal is not to determine what healing should look like for a survivor. Our role is to provide compassionate care, information, resources, and support while empowering survivors to decide what comes next for themselves.

That philosophy extends throughout The Turning Point. Different members of our team may serve survivors in different ways, but we share one commitment: the survivor remains at the center of the care we provide.

Meet the People Behind the Care

This North Texas Giving Day, we want you to hear directly from the people who carry out this mission every day.

Throughout our campaign, members of The Turning Point staff will share personal stories about their work, what compassion means in their individual roles, why they choose to serve survivors, and the moments that remind them why this work matters.

You will hear from people working across our organization and get a closer look at the many forms compassionate care can take.

These aren't simply stories about what The Turning Point does. They are stories about how we choose to do it—with gentleness, intention, dignity, respect, and an unwavering belief in survivors.

You Can Be Part of the Care

Our staff may provide the direct services, but this work has always required a community.

Every person who gives becomes part of the network of care surrounding survivors.

Your support helps make it possible for The Turning Point to continue providing services and resources to those impacted by sexual violence and to continue the education and outreach that help strengthen our community.
