On October 4, 2025, more than 100 community members came together at the ArtCentre of Plano for The Turning Point’s 2nd annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® event — a powerful day of unity, compassion, and celebration.
This year’s walk held special meaning as it marked The Turning Point’s 40th year of providing hope and healing to survivors of sexual violence across North Texas. Instead of the traditional heels, participants donned bright red boas, walking a mile in solidarity to symbolize strength, resilience, and collective action.
The energy was vibrant and heartfelt — families, friends, and advocates all took part in walking side by side to show survivors that they are never alone.
A Community United in Support

The event featured special guests who brought inspiration and encouragement to the day.
Courtney Underwood, President of The Turning Point’s Board of Directors, opened the event with a message of gratitude and hope, reflecting on the organization’s four decades of impact.
Sophia-Rose Centurioni, Miss Fort Worth, shared powerful words of encouragement and treated the crowd to an uplifting dance performance that embodied the spirit of resilience.

Also showing their strong support were members of the African American Collaborative of Plano, walking proudly as a unified group, and Princeton Council Member, Place 2, Cristina Todd, who joined the community in honoring survivors and standing up for change.
Every participant, every step, and every red boa told a story — a story of compassion, community, and commitment to ending sexual violence.
Looking Ahead: Celebrating 40 Years of Hope and Healing

The Walk A Mile in Her Shoes® event served as a beautiful lead-up to The Turning Point’s next milestone — the 40th Anniversary Luncheon. This celebration will honor four decades of service, advocacy, and the countless lives that have been changed through The Turning Point’s work.
