On April 11, 2026, The Turning Point welcomed survivors, families, advocates, and community leaders to the ArtCentre of Plano for our 4th Annual Community Supporting Survivors event—and what unfolded was more than just a gathering. It was a powerful reminder of what happens when a community shows up with purpose.
This free, family-friendly event kickoff to Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) , this year’s event centered on connection, awareness, and uplifting survivor voices—while creating space for education, healing, and action.
A Community United in Support
From the moment the event began, there was a shared sense of unity. Attendees moved through a vibrant space filled with community partner tables, resources, and interactive experiences designed to educate and empower.

We were honored to welcome State Representative Mihaela Plesa, along with city representatives from Plano, Allen, Murphy, Frisco, and Princeton. Their presence reinforced the importance of collective leadership in addressing sexual violence and supporting survivors across North Texas.
This level of regional representation sent a clear message: supporting survivors is not the responsibility of one organization—it is a shared commitment across communities.
Elevating Voices Through Art and Storytelling
One of the most powerful elements of this year’s event was the way storytelling and creative expression brought the mission to life.

Attendees were moved by a live performance from Commercial Voices, whose energy and
message created a dynamic and engaging atmosphere. The performance served as both inspiration and a call to action—reminding us all of the role we play in shaping a safer, more compassionate community.

Equally impactful was the reading by survivor and poet Corina Deiters, who shared passages from her book. Her words offered a deeply personal and courageous glimpse into the survivor experience—creating a moment of reflection, empathy, and connection that resonated throughout the crowd.
In addition, we were proud to highlight the artwork of students who participated in our Youth Voices Poster Campaign. These powerful visual pieces captured messages of consent, respect, and survivor support—demonstrating how creativity can be a meaningful tool for awareness and prevention. Each piece reflected the passion and perspective of young people committed to creating change in their communities.

Youth Voices Leading the Conversation
This year’s focus on youth engagement came to life through a powerful Youth Awareness Panel Discussion, featuring three college students who spoke openly about sexual violence, prevention, and the importance of peer-led change.

Their conversation highlighted a critical truth: prevention starts with awareness, and young people are not just participants in this movement—they are leaders.
By creating space for these voices, the event underscored The Turning Point’s commitment to empowering the next generation to challenge harmful norms, promote respect, and build safer communities.
Honoring Dedication and Impact

A standout moment of the day was the recognition of Turning Point volunteer Jason Blair, who was honored for an extraordinary milestone—16,000 hours of volunteer service.
This recognition was more than an award; it was a celebration of commitment, compassion, and the vital role volunteers play in supporting survivors. Jason’s dedication reflects the heart of The Turning Point’s mission and the impact one individual can make over time.
More Than an Event—A Movement
Throughout the day, attendees connected with local organizations, accessed valuable resources, and engaged in meaningful conversations about prevention and support. From families enjoying activities together to advocates sharing information, every interaction contributed to a larger purpose.
Events like Community Supporting Survivors are essential in breaking the silence surrounding sexual violence. They create space for education, reduce stigma, and remind survivors that they are not alone.
Looking Ahead
As we continue through Sexual Assault Awareness Month and beyond, the energy from this event carries forward. The conversations started, the connections made, and the voices elevated will continue to shape the work ahead.
At The Turning Point, we remain committed to providing no-cost advocacy, counseling, forensic services, and prevention education—while working alongside our community to promote healing and end violence.
Because when a community stands together, real change happens.
